PICK UP & POLICIES

Pick Up Instructions

Chick orders are first come first serve. For the 2025 season we will be hatching chickens 1-2x each month. We will not be taking any pre-orders nor will we be keeping a wait list. All chicks hatched will be posted to our Facebook/instagram page; @Jonesbackyardhatchery to be claimed for pick up. All chicken breeds that we work with will be offered each hatch, so you will have a variety to choose from. We realize many of you have quite the drive and may need time to arrange a pick up day. We are pretty flexible with our schedules and are happy to hold onto the chicks for a few extra days - as long as this is discussed at the time you claim your chicks. Please view our schedule below for tentative hatching dates. We will also be hatching Quail, Ducklings, and Goslings this year. Hatch dates for those will be worked in between the chickens, and dates are TBD.

Pick ups are done at our home, and MUST be scheduled in advance. We work full time jobs during the week and make plans during the weekends. Please be respectful and reach out in a timely manner if you're unable to make your pick up time. Chicks are boxed up prior to your arrival and will get cold if you're late. Please do not show up without a designated day & time for pick up.

There is a 3 chick minimum for purchase. Chickens are flock animals and do not do well alone. We strongly recommend purchasing 4 or more at a time. If you're introducing young birds to an existing flock it is best to have a good sized group. This makes the adjustment period easier on both groups, and makes it harder for the older group to single out any of the new birds to pick on.

Chick & Egg Color Disclaimer

While I strive to uphold breed standard and only work with the best possible genetics - things can go wrong in the breeding process. After all, we are working with nature, and it is not always as straight forward as one would like to think. Because of this, I do not guarantee egg color on any of our birds. This is a hobby business and not my full time job. I experiment with the genetics and use them for fun egg color crosses. There is a lab we utilize on occasion to test for the Blue gene; however it is costly to test the entire flock. Please know when purchasing any chicks we can only predict so much as far as egg color and characteristics. We do not provide refunds for a healthy laying hen just because it laid the wrong color or doesn't have speckles. Egg color descriptions on each breed are based on the eggs we get from our flock and grow outs. If there is a possibility of tan/brown eggs it is disclosed on the breed description. We are as transparent as possible - it is the buyers responsibility to read breed descriptions and know our policies.

Return Policy

We cannot under any circumstances take back any birds once they leave our property. Bringing in birds that have been on another property increases disease & Parasite risk and threatens our Bio-security. It is the buyers responsibility to find homes for any unwanted Roosters or chicks if it is determined you cannot care for them any longer. Many of our chicks are sold unsexed so it is important to have a plan in place for any extra roosters you may end up with.

Refund Policy

We DO NOT under any circumstances send off chicks that are acting weak or sick in any way. Only active and healthy chicks are packed for homes. Chicks are monitored for the first 24 hours of life at our home and then we guarantee the health of our chicks for the first 24 hours AFTER they leave our care. After that it is assumed the owners responsibility. If you are a first time Poultry owner - PLEASE do your research prior to pick up and ensure you have a safe & proper set up for them. Refunds will be issued for any chicks that pass away within 24 hours of leaving our care.

All Hatching egg sales are final. We do not offer refunds on hatching eggs.

Hatching Egg Pick Up & Policy

"Hens Choice" hatching eggs will be offered on our Facebook/Instagram as they are available. We will not offer any hatching eggs until we have tested and are happy with fertility and hatch rates for each breed. We are only offering full dozens at this time. Eggs are collected over 2-3 days. We do not sell any eggs over 5 days old. This provides the best viability and chance of hatching. We do not put anything over 7 days into our own incubators. You are always welcome to message us and request specific breeds or mixes that we will collect for you once a pick up date is arranged.

I am always hesitant to offer hatching eggs because so much can go wrong in the process. However, we know how much fun it can be to experience the process of egg to fluffy chick and love to offer families the experience. We ask that you please do your research and know your incubator before attempting to hatch. I am always happy to answer questions about incubator settings, but each incubator is different and will require some practice.

Hatching Egg Policy - There is no guarantee of hatchability when you purchase fertile eggs through the mail or in person. Many factors can cause a fresh, fertile egg to become inviable. Please know you bare all the risk and responsibility when buying hatching eggs. Hatching eggs are Non-Refundable no matter the hatch rate you end up with.
